The Euromoney Ghana/West Africa Conference was held on the 25th of September, 2018 at the Kempinsky Hotel, in Accra. The theme of the different sessions was based on increasing Financial Inclusion, and Digital Transformation and Innovation.
The conference was opened by Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, and the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, gave the official keynote address.
In his address, the Vice President spoke about the government’s intentions to build a digital system for financial transactions in both private and public sectors. This is in line with a growing trend in Ghana of increasing financial inclusion through digital transformation. The government is also trying to utilize digitalization to improve governance for registration of lands, cars, also for filing with the courts and other government institutions. Also, to streamline importing and customs processes. To encourage this push, the Vice President also announced that government wants to make payments for government services completely digital.
The Vice President also announced government plans to invest in data centers for digital training and education to improve participants in the new digital system. He wrapped up his address noting that domestic mobilization was the best way to improve the financial system through financial inclusion.
The conference featured panel discussion from finance heads from around the globe, interviews with sponsor executives, tech start-ups, consultancy heads and government regulators.
